Last month, the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA) – including Executive Director Michael Brennan, President Valerie Sabol, and President-Elect Deborah Dunn, met with UHG Center for Clinician Advancement’s Sue Mullaney and Jennifer Meyer and UHG External Affairs’ Kelly Davis, Sara Pescatello, and John Prible at 701i, UHG’s Washington, D.C. The meeting provided an important opportunity to discuss solutions to address the challenges associated with developing a workforce that meets the needs of a growing and increasingly diverse aging patient population. During the discussion, Mullaney emphasized UHG’s strong commitment to health care workforce development across its businesses, philanthropic initiatives, and thought leadership.
UHG and GAPNA also discussed how they can continue to leverage UHG’s recently released report, “Addressing the Nation’s Primary Care Shortage” about how Nurse Practitioners (NPs) practicing at the full extent of their education and training can expand the Nation’s primary care capacity.
The 701i visit was an opportunity for UHG to further develop its partnership with an important care delivery stakeholder and to demonstrate UHG’s commitment to building a 21st Century health care workforce.
