Jalana Haynes, BS
Michigan State University, Class of 2022

Jalana Haynes is an emerging healthcare professional dedicated to improving the lives of older adults and amplifying the voices of caregivers in long-term care. She graduated from Michigan State University in 2022 with a degree in human biology and currently works as a nurse aide in the ICU. Her experiences at the bedside have fueled her ambition to become a healthcare provider specializing in women’s health or geriatrics, with a passion for helping older adults maintain independence and embrace aging.

Jalana’s commitment to geriatric care extends beyond her clinical role. She is a valued member of the Michigan State Team for the Moving Forward National Coalition, where she brings the unique and essential perspective of Certified Nurse Aides (CNA). By representing caregivers on the front lines of long-term care, Jalana ensures their voices are heard in efforts to improve systems of care for older adults. Her leadership in this space demonstrates her advocacy for both patients and providers in long-term care settings.

For nearly a year, Jalana has also collaborated with Dr. Cynthera McNeill on the AGREED GWEP grant, a project focused on enhancing the quality of geriatric care in Southeast Michigan. She plays an active role in the Community Committee, which raises awareness of geriatric services across the region and at Wayne State University, and the Clinical Committee, where she assists nursing students in educating healthcare professionals on Age-Friendly Care and the 4Ms framework. Through this work, Jalana has contributed to advancing age-friendly practices in both community and clinical settings, particularly in long-term care facilities.

Jalana’s dedication and impact have not gone unnoticed. She was selected to be highlighted by Dr. Cynthera McNeill and Dr. Michelle Moccia (Great Lakes Chapter) for her outstanding contributions to the Michigan State Team and her role as a bridge between direct care providers and healthcare leaders. Her recognition reflects the team’s appreciation for her insights, her advocacy on behalf of CNAs, and her growing leadership in the field of geriatrics.

Grateful for the opportunities she has been given, Jalana looks forward to building on this foundation as she continues her work with the coalition, contributes to geriatric grant initiatives, and pursues her future career as a healthcare provider.
