Acute & Emergent Care SIG Highlights Katy Vickers, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC
The Acute & Emergent Care Special Interest Group (SIG) is pleased to highlight Katy Vickers, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, a nurse practitioner specializing in inpatient geriatric consulting at University Hospital, a Level I trauma center in San Antonio, Texas. After earning her DNP from Texas Christian University in 2023, she completed the Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Residency with the Veterans Health Administration at the Audie Murphy VA in San Antonio.
Dr. Vickers has been a GAPNA member since May 2025 and actively participates in both the Acute & Emergent Care and Communications SIGs. She serves as co-editor with Dr. George Peraza-Smith for the bi-monthly GAPNA column in the Journal of Gerontological Nursing for 2026.
She is a member of AANP, ANA, and the Texas Nurse Practitioners Association (TNP), has presented posters at two NP conferences in Texas, and is actively pursuing her Gerontological Specialist-Certified (GS-C) credentials. A former Legislative Ambassador for TNP, Dr. Vickers continues to advocate for equitable access to health care for all Texans.
