The Impact of TD in LTC: Recognizing and Treating Tardive Dyskinesia in Long-Term Care
Moderator: Todd Leland
Speaker: Amber R. Hoberg, PMHNP
Older patients and residents with tardive dyskinesia require special considerations. Learn about symptoms, prevalence, and management guidelines for TD in this population. Faculty will share clinical data for an FDA-approved treatment option for adults with tardive dyskinesia and highlight
first-of-its-kind data from a post hoc analysis of safety and efficacy for adults aged 65 years and older. Participants will also be able to examine the case of a real patient with tardive dyskinesia by observing videos of the patient before and after treatment.

Parkinson’s Disease Psychosis: Managing Complex Patients with Behavioral Manifestations
Presenters: Fay Bembry, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC; Susan Scanland, MSN, CRNP, GNP-BC, CDP, CSP
Parkinson’s disease psychosis (PDP), particularly with behavioral manifestations is a complex debilitating condition that needs early identification and treatment with non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions. Advanced practice nurses (NP) are at the forefront of managing and coordinating care for these patients, especially in the long-term care setting. The focus of this case-based activity is for NPs to become more adept at identifying PDP and develop person-centered non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic management plans for older adults with PDP who exhibit behavioral disturbances.

IDgenetix PGx Testing Can Help Guide Neuropsychiatric Medication Selection and Management for Older Adults
Presenter: Raymond A. Lorenz, PharmD, BCPP
Pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing has been shown to improve patient outcomes in multiple therapeutic areas and patient types, including older adults who are more likely to experience polypharmacy, inappropriate medication use, and adverse effects. Multiple factors must be considered when managing older adults’ medication regimens, such as comorbidities, concurrent medications, and lifestyle factors. IDgenetix assesses drug-gene interactions, drug-drug interactions, and drug-lifestyle interactions to generate an actionable report that can help clinicians choose medications that are not only genetically appropriate, but also clinically appropriate. This presentation will review the evidence supporting the use of IDgenetix in older adult populations.
