Distinguished Nursing Educator Award: GAPNA Members Recognized in the First Inaugural Cohort at the 2018 NHCGNE Leadership Conference
By Melodee Harris
The organizational mission of the National Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) is to enhance and sustain the capacity and competency of nurses to provide quality care for older adults.
The NHCGNE builds on the legacy of The John A. Hartford Foundation, the gold standard of excellence in gerontology. The NHCGNE holds an annual Leadership Conference. The 2018 NHCGNE Leadership Conference was held at Northeastern University, Bouve College of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, in Boston, MA.
The topic of the conference was Thriving Together As We Age: Older Adults and Their Caregivers.
HCGNE has many commonalities with the GAPNA. Like GAPNA, NHCGNE is dedicated to optimal health and quality of life for older adults. Many GAPNA members are also members of NHCGNE and attend the annual NHCGNE Leadership Conference.
NHCGNE recognizes the leadership of gerontological nurse educators who work with students, faculty, and providers in diverse settings through its Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing Program.
GAPNA was well represented at the NHCGNE Leadership Conference. Nine GAPNA members were inducted into the Inaugural Cohort for the Distinguished Nursing Educator Award at the NHCGNE Leadership Conference.
Congratulations to the awardees for their excellence in gerontological nursing education!
